The future of three vacated primary schools, along with Maybole swimming pool, is to be decided next week.While the old Carrick Academy is being demolished as part of the new £60m Maybole Campus development, the future of Gardenrose Primary, Cairn Primary and St.
Cuthbert’s Primary sites has not yet been decided.There are also implications for Maybole Swimming Pool, with the campus featuring a swimming pool which will be open to the community from January next year.South Ayrshire Council cabinet is set to make that future clearer next week as they consider whether the sites are kept for council use or declared surplus and sold off.A report to cabinet states: “Following the Council’s development of the Maybole Community Campus incorporating Carrick Academy, Gardenrose Primary, Cairn Primary and St Cuthbert’s Primary all three primary schools will be vacated and from September 2023 are no longer required for the council’s educational requirements.The council is required to determine whether there are any council services or other public bodies wishing to make use of the properties before it can be declared surplus and sold on.The larger Gardenrose Primary site was considered too large for council housing, but the housing service has asked to carry out a feasibility study for housing at the smaller Cairn Primary site.The report also indicates that discussions with a local organisation and other community planning partners had not uncovered any interest in the Gardenrose site.However, discussions have indicated that it may be attractive for a private housing development.
