A full-scale invasion of Asian hornets in England is 'inevitable', experts have warned. And the country is 'ill-prepared' for the arrival of the deadly insect which has already conquered parts of Europe.
Experts say the wider public needs to 'wake up' to the dangers of the Asian hornet, which is ruining public events such as fun-runs and destroying grape crops in France.
This season a total of 37 nests in 30 different locations in the UK - dwarfing figures from any previous year. And in a presentation to the British Beekeeping Association, Andrew Durham said lessons from the continent needed to be urgently learnt - and said public money would ultimately be needed to help fight the battle.
