Cambuslang Rangers boss Paul McColl has urged his side to cut out late goals in their bid to climb the West of Scotland First Division.Jordan Lee Thompson gave St Roch’s a 3-2 win at James McGrory Park before a trialist was sent off for Cambuslang, in a situation where McColl felt they could have taken a point. But McColl says conceding late goals has been an Achilles Heel this season, and hopes they can sort it out.He said: “We played well, it was quite a good game, and they played well, considering the conditions, which were horrendous.“They got the goal with five minutes to go.
Too many times we’ve lost goals at that time – late goals are killing us.“The boy has run from 20 yards, and it wasn’t even a great shot, the keeper’s diving and it’s gone through his legs and in.“But it was difficult to play in that, the wind was a factor in the second half – we were pummelling the ball into it, but we should have done more in the first half.“Chances-wise it was a fairly even game.
I thought we should maybe have nicked it, but we didn’t.“With the wind behind you, you’ve got a bit of a momentum when you’re at home, trying to win the game.
If we had the wind for us in the second half, we would probably have won it.“We were unlucky, I can’t fault the players, they played pretty well, and we got a sending off at the end, which was probably the right decision.“It wasn’t a great tackle, by one of our trialists, but I didn’t give him a hard time for it, because the game was done then.“They’ll beat a lot of teams there, it’s a hard place to go.
