Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two” soared past expectations in its opening weekend, debuting to a massive $81.5 million at the box office.
Studio Warner Bros. had pegged projections around the $65 million mark, but the “Dune” sequel exceeded that number on the way to becoming the biggest opening weekend of the year and the largest box office debut since Taylor Swift’s concert film, “The Eras Tour” brought in $93 million in October.
Fresh off the new “Dune” movie is also a host of new merch, all inspired by the blockbuster film and Frank Herbert’s original 1965 novel.
