International sales of French TV shows topped €203M (U.S.225M) in 2023, down 5.3% with buyers more reluctant to splash the cash than in the previous year.
The sales downturn comes after a bumper 2022, which made year-on-year comparisons tough, and the total still marks only the third time ever that French program exports have topped the €200M threshold.
Unveiling the French TV export figures at the Unifrance Rendez-Vous event in Le Havre, the CNC’s Cécile Lacoue said the figure reflected the impact of both global and industry events. “There was a challenging market in 2023,” she said. “There were difficult economic conditions with widespread inflation and many changes among the buyers, downsizing, and the restructuring of major corporations such as Warner Bros.
