Jean-Paul Belmondo has sadly died at the age of 88. The famed French actor was the star of Breathless, which debuted in 1960.
His passing was confirmed Monday by the office of his lawyer, Michel Godest, although no cause of death was given, according to the AP. Jean-Paul played soccer and trained as a boxer before quitting school at age 16 to become an actor.
He trained at the Paris Conservatory in the 1950s. He received an honorary Palme d’Or at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, an honorary Golden Lion at the 2016 Venice Film Festival and an honorary Cesar in 2017.
In addition to Breathless, Jean-Paul also starred in A Man and His Dog, The Professional and 1995′s Les Miserables.
