Pablo Larraín’s Maria Callas biopic starring Angelina Jolie, a mystery thriller created by Jim Keeble and Dudi Appleton are the first projects to be backed by Fremantle and IBI Investment House’s €150M ($162.7M) Scripted Fund.
Unveiled today, the four-year fund will see Fremantle label’s high-end TV and film projects funded via a bespoke model by the Israeli investor, which will “fast-track the production of each project,” according to the pair.
IBI, which is making its first foray into international film and TV production, will work closely with Fremantle and talent to greenlight each project and find the best route to market.
Guy Hameiri, who runs Fremantle-ownd indie Abot Hameiri, will oversee the fund. He spearheaded the deal with Fremantle Group COO and Continental Europe CEO Andrea Scrosati, who has been the driving force behind the super-indie’s much-publicized investment splurge.
