Each year, many people across Britain wear a poppy in remembrance and as a symbol of thanks to all those who have served in the armed forces.

The poppy became an official symbol of remembrance after the Royal British Legion launched the first ‘Poppy Appeal’ in 1921.

They ordered nine million poppies and started to sell them on the 11th of November that year; the poppies sold out almost immediately and raised over £106,000 (which was an incredible amount at the time) to help support war veterans.
