Fraudster tricked flat-hunters into paying bogus deposits using fake lawyer friend - he even left one woman homeless

A conman tricked seven flat-hunters out of deposits for a room that wasn't for rent — and left a woman homeless. Patrick Matthews, of Stuart Street, Clayton, fooled the would-be lodgers in January 2020.

In total, he fleeced his victims out of £3,355 over the course of the month. One woman was left temporarily homeless as she had nowhere else to go.
