Frasier reboot cancelled by Paramount+ after two seasons

Frasier revival has been cancelled by Paramount+ after two seasons.The rebooted series launched in 2023, and follows Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) as he returns to Boston – where the character was first introduced in 1980s sitcom Cheers before his own spin-off, Frasier, which was set in Seattle.

Alongside Grammer, the series stars Nicholas Lyndhurst, and is led by showrunners Chris Harris and Joe Cristalli.With its initial launch met with positive reviews, the show was renewed for a second season in 2024, but has now been cancelled by Paramount+, per Deadline.Fraiser‘s producer CBS Studios remains committed to the series and plans to shop it to other outlets – with Prime Video and Hulu listed as potential options.

According to Deadline, CBS Studios’ sibling CBS is not among a list of new homes for the series, with the network reportedly lacking shelf space for a comedy.Seasons 1 and 2 of the revival, along with the original library episodes, will remain available to stream on Paramount+.In a four-star review of the revival, NME wrote: “Bringing beloved comedies back can be fraught with danger, a shallow and sentimental wallow, but the creators of Frasier know exactly what made the show great.

Premiering on Paramount+, Frasier 2.0 is well worth raising a glass to.”In other Frasier news, in October star Toks Olagundoye said she feared being sacked from the show after her cancer diagnosis but was reassured by a personal call from Grammer.“He was very emotional, he didn’t realise what I was going through, and he said, ‘I know how actors think, I want to let you know this is your family, you’re not getting fired, we’re going to do whatever we need to do to make you feel comfortable,” she said.
