Four men arrested after hundreds join far right riot in Southport

Four men have been arrested after more than 50 police officers were injured in a night of violent rioting in Southport in the wake of a mass stabbing that left three children dead. Disorder broke out on the streets of the seaside town last night (Tuesday), close to the scene of the knife attack at a children's dance event on Monday.

Chaos erupted after a vigil was held to commemorate the children who lost their lives, as well as those who remain in a critical condition in hospital. Bebe King, six, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Alice Aguiar, aged nine have been named as the children killed in the attack.

In a tribute, Bebe King's family shared the following tribute: "No words can describe the devastation that has hit our family as we try to deal with the loss of our little girl Bebe." Last night frontline cops were hit with bricks and bottles and cars were set alight, including a police van, as hundreds of people swarmed outside a local mosque after false rumours spread online about the murder suspect.

The violent clashes saw 53 officers injured, including 49 from Merseyside Police and four from Lancashire. Three police dogs were injured and eight Merseyside Police officers sustained serious injuriesincluding fractures, lacerations, a suspected broken nose and concussion.
