Former Wales rugby star Matthew J Watkins dies at 41

Former Wales rugby star Matthew J Watkins has died at the age of 41. The international rugby union player had been battling a long illness after being diagnosed with a rare form of pelvic cancer seven years ago.

He leaves his wife Stacey and his sons Siôr and Tal. A statement from Dragons, one of Matthew's former teams, said: "Everyone at Dragons Rugby is deeply saddened at the passing of our former player Matthew J Watkins at the age of 41. "'MJ', who won 18 caps for Wales between 2003 and 2006 as a creative and silky-skilled centre, began his professional career with Newport RFC and was a hugely popular figure with fans, team-mates and staff alike at Rodney Parade.
