The 44-year-old took a total of £120,000 and spent the stolen cash on a Mulberry handbag, items from the White Company and Amazon purchases.
Her illicit scheme, which took place between September 2019 and November 2022, was only unveiled when other family members questioned the size of Ms Matthews' estate following her death in 2021.
Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard how Matthews told family members that her mother’s estate was valued at £36,000. But the sum was questioned by her sister, who applied to the bank for copies of her mother’s statements.
