And former Buddies skipper Goodwin believes the 22-year-old has a lot of the same traits as those who have worn the armband for the club in recent years.

He said: “We’ve lost Stephen McGinn who was really influential when he played. He got the team up and then helped keep them in the Premiership before I joined.
