Former Celtic star Charlie Mulgrew confirmed as Hamilton Accies U18 coach as he aims to 'foster culture of excellence'

Hamilton Accies have confirmed the appointment of former Celtic and Scotland star Charlie Mulgrew as their new Under-18s coach. Lanarkshire Live Sport exclusively revealed that Accies had agreed a deal for the 38-year-old to take the reins of the club’s highly-respected youth team and Accies have announced that he will work under newly appointed youth supremo Gordon Young, who was announced as George Cairns’ replacement last night.

Mulgrew brings a wealth of experience to the South Lanarkshire club having also made over 150 appearances for Celtic and played at the highest level in Europe, competing in the Champions League.

He won five Premiership titles and two Scottish Cups while at the Hoops and also had top flight spells with Aberdeen and Dundee United, as well as playing in the English Championship with Blackburn and Wigan.And Accies hope that kind of knowledge of the game can help their youth setup continue to thrive in the future.

A club statement read: “Hamilton Academical FC are delighted to announce the appointment of former Scotland International footballer, Charlie Mulgrew, as the newest member of the Coaching Staff at the Club where he will undertake responsibility for the club’s Under 18’s Elite Youth Academy team.“With an impressive career that includes 44 International Caps and performances at the highest level of the game in the Champions League, Mulgrew brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this vital role.“Charlie Mulgrew’s distinguished career as a player has seen him achieve remarkable success both on the domestic and international fronts.
