A former Catholic club in Eccles could be turned into an 11-bedroom house of multiple occupation (HMO) under new plans submitted to the council.

Talbot Catholic Club, at 12 Eldon Place, is currently empty and is based in a residential area surrounded by other homes. A HMO would typically have at least three tenants living there forming more than one household, with some facilities being shared such as kitchens or bathrooms.

Access to the site is from Liverpool Road and the developer said that the proposed HMO would be "complementary with neighbouring properties", with off-road parking at the front and space for "numerous cars" and communal patio areas to the rear of the property. A report submitted as part of the application stated that the previous owners of the Catholic club "desperately tried to keep the club open" but that much of the work was left to one person to manage.
