Part of a former bank building in Leigh town centre dating back to the 19th century is to be converted into a bar and drinking establishment as part of a long-term goal to boost the town’s night-time economy.
An organisation known as Leigh Means Business has got the go-ahead for the transformation of the former HSBC building on Bradshawgate from Wigan council’s planning team on behalf of an applicant called Mrs J Francis.
The building at number 77 will get a new shopfront and rooflights along with a single-storey extension and a shipping container in the rear yard will be used as toilets.
A report by a planning officer said: “The applicant seeks to convert the building into an independent unit to be used as a bar/drinking establishment.” It said the site is in Leigh town centre’s principal shopping area and also the town centre conservation area.
