He was a successful comedian who holds a huge place in Strictly Come Dancing history, but Jason Wood's career came to a tragic end when he died aged only 38.
Jason was chosen as one of the star names to take part in the first series of Strictly Come Dancing – which celebrates its 20th birthday this year – back in 2004, where he competed against famous faces including newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky, actress Claire Sweeney and opera star Lesley Garrett.The show chose Jason as he was a rising star in comedy at the time.
Jason made a name for himself on the comedy circuit in the early 2000s and was celebrated for his remarkable voice and uncannily accurate impersonations of singers – everyone from Alison Moyet to Morrissey to Sarah Brightman and Luciano Pavarotti were part of the talented star’s repertoire.
He soon carved out a niche for himself with a modern take on the old-school flamboyant variety star. His huge smile, bright suits and larger-than-life personality soon saw him making appearances on TV panel shows.
