A pensioner says she and her family 'can't go on like this' after enduring a decade of sleepless nights thanks to the shuddering noise made by a manhole cover outside their home.

Freda Smith, 73, says the noise has made their home 'uninhabitable'. She, her husband David, 75, and son Paul, 46, live on Liverpool Road in Peel Green, Eccles, near the AJ Bell stadium.

The route links Irlam to Salford, through Barton Moss past Barton Aerodrome, and merges out onto a busy junction of the M60, which also serves the Trafford Centre and onto Trafford Park.
