Footballer Kurt Zouma charged by RSPCA after kicking his cat

The RSPCA has charged footballer Kurt Zouma after he was "filmed" kicking his cat across his kitchen floor last month.The West Ham defender faced public outcry and backlash after The Sun shared the horrendous clip of him kicking and slapping his Bengal cat in his £2 million London mansion.

And on Wednesday 16 March, the RSPCA announced that 28 year old Kurt has been charged and will appear in court on a date that has yet to be set.The clip was allegedly filmed by his 23 year old brother Yoan Zouma, who has also been charged according to the RSPCA.

The animal charity said in a statement: "Following a full and thorough investigation, we have started the process of bringing a prosecution against Kurt Zouma and Yoan Zouma under the Animal Welfare Act. "The two cats continue to be cared for by the RSPCA.

We will be in a position to release more information once a court date is confirmed." Meanwhile, Kurt's club West Ham said in a statement on Wednesday: "West Ham United is aware of the RSPCA statement in relation to its investigation involving Kurt Zouma. "Kurt continues to co-operate fully, supported by the Club." It was added: "It is our understanding that Kurt's cats have been checked by a vet, are in good health and have suffered no physical injuries. "For legal reasons, neither Kurt or the Club will be making any further comment at this time." Kurt has continued to play for West Ham since the incident, but he has faced boos by the club's supporters and away fans.
