Football historian goes back in time to publish new booklet of Lanarkshire's first teams to play the beautiful game

A Lanarkshire football historian has compiled a booklet of 19th Century match reports and donated it to his local Heritage Society.Robert Harvey gathered archives from the Rutherglen Reformer with some that appeared over 140 years ago.The excerpts cover 332 teams and 684 match reports ranging from in-depth analysis to some simple one-liners and results.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

He is also a member of Rutherglen Heritage Society.In recent years he's been involved in numerous projects including an appeal for information to put together similar files for a local women's football team in the 1970s.Robert has now compiled his research from match reports covered by the Reformer between 1876 and 1886.He has now gladly donated the booklet to the local Heritage Society and is spreading the word, engaging locals with his presentations.Robert said: "The biggest surprise to me was that the Rutherglen Reformer not only covered local games, but reported on games across Scotland (from Edinburgh to Greenock and many towns in between)."There are
