Foo Fighters headlined the opening night of the new Washington D.C. venue The Atlantis and performed rare live track ‘New Way Home’ last night (May 30).The Atlantis – a new 450-person capacity replica venue of the original 9:30 Club – opened yesterday with the Foos taking the stage.According to Consequence of Sound, the band’s set began with frontman Dave Grohl reuniting with Pete Stahl, his old bandmate in the D.C.

He was 50 years old.

Foo Fighters have released ‘The Teacher’, the final single from their upcoming 11th album ‘But Here We Are’.The 10-minute-long track is the longest song the band have ever recorded, and sees Dave Grohl begin with an understated guitar intro, and ultimately build up to blaze of audio overload. It also references the passing of drummer Taylor Hawkins and Grohl’s mother, Virginia.Directed by multimedia artist Tony Oursler, the single’s accompanying video is a short film featuring emotive imagery and home videos from the band.The director came to Foo Fighters’ attention via his work with David Bowie – specifically his video for Bowie’s landmark January 2013 single ‘Where Are We Now?’.‘The Teacher’ follows the band’s previously released singles ‘Rescued’, ‘Under You’ and ‘Show Me How’.

A signed guitar once owned by Kurt Cobain has sold at auction for nearly $600,000, Billboard reports. The black Fender Stratocaster was initially listed at $60,000 but bidding on the memorabilia was fiercely contested, pushing the price up way beyond expectations.

The Foo Fighters had a literal motley crew of cameos in their livestream, "Foo Fighters: Preparing Music for Concerts," before announcing a new addition to the band: drummer Josh Freese. In the wake of the tragic passing of Taylor Hawkins last March, the band enlisted the help of other famous drummers, including Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith, Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee and Tool’s Danny Carey, to tease the ultimate arrival of Freese.  Each musician was welcomed into the studio by the band, only to deliver a funny remark like, "There's a white Mercedes blocking me," "I got the P.F. Chang's" and "I groomed your poodles for you." With multiple interruptions, an agitated voice off camera can be heard yelling, "Excuse me," before cutting to Freese behind the drums.

Kurt Cobain has sold for just shy of $600,000 (£480,000) at auction.The instrument in question is a black Fender Stratocaster, which was reportedly broken by the frontman around the same time that Nirvana were releasing their now-iconic second album, ‘Nevermind’.Hosted by Julien’s Auctions, it sold on Saturday (May 20) at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City, and exceeded all expectations by reaching 10 times the expected value. Originally, the axe was thought to bring in between $60,000 and $80,000 at the event, namely due to the period the musician used it and the details it included on the body.Not only was the Stratocaster reportedly used by the musician around 1991, but it also features signatures from all three band members – Cobain, Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic.
