Florence Pugh is doing more than just acting in her new movie A Good Person. The 27-year-old Don’t Worry Darling star also sings in the film as her character Allison.

Two of her songs from it – “I Hate Myself” and “The Best Part” – have even been released on streaming services. The tracks present very different sides of her character’s psyches and help move the movie’s plot forward.

They also highlight Florence‘s lovely and evocative voice. Listen to Florence Pugh’s new songs… “I woke up today, at least that much is true,” Florence sings over a melancholic production on “I Hate Myself.” She closes by reflecting on the work that is going into turning her life around.

In comparison, “The Best Part” ends with a declaration of continuing love. “I wrote these songs for my character Allison in the movie to perform, but also as a way to process and digest her mindset and her low headspace,” Florence told The Guardian. “It was unbelievably helpful and hard; I wanted a song to reflect the self-hatred she had for herself in a way that the audience can truly understand.” A Good Person, directed by Zach Braff, centers on Allison, whose world crumbles in the blink of an eye when she survives an unimaginable tragedy, emerging from recovery with an opioid addiction and unresolved grief.
