Five-year-old girl tragically dies after being hit by car as man arrested

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following the tragic death of a five-year-old girl after she was hit by a car.Paramedics worked to save the child after they found her in cardiac arrest on Waterside Drive, Blurton, Stoke-on-Trent, at 5.52pm on Friday.

Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed. The child's family is currently being supported by specially trained police officers, Stoke-on-Trent Live reports.

Meanwhile, a 63-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident. He remains in police custody why inquiries remain ongoing.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "Police were called at 5.52pm on Friday (April 1l) to Waterside Drive, Blurton, Stoke-on-Trent, following reports of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian. "Officers attended and a five-year-old girl was found in cardiac arrest following a collision involving a grey Volkswagen Touran."Sadly, she was pronounced dead by paramedics a short time later.
