Five-year-old girl dies as pupils at Glasgow primary school offered support

A five-year-old girl has tragically died in Glasgow. Parents at St Ninian's Primary School in Knightswood received a letter from the headteacher on Wednesday, December 21, to notify them of the sudden death of a primary one student, who had only recently joined the school.The letter confirmed that youngsters had not yet been told the tragic news, but it would be announced this morning.

All pupils will be offered educational psychology support, if they need it.The child's cause of death is not yet known, though it did not occur on school grounds.

The headteacher, Madeline McGeachie, said the youngster's family, who are new to the school community, would be given as much support as possible.Ms McGeachie's letter read: "It is with great sadness that I write to inform you that one of our P1 pupils has sadly died.

The death was unexpected and our thoughts are very much with the family who only joined us within the past few weeks."I am sending this letter home to make you, as parents and carers, aware of this sad loss but to also inform that we have not spoken with the children yet.
