A student who had been at the beach with four friends before getting into difficulty and dying in hospital, has been named. Hamza Mansoor was pulled from the water along with two of his friends at Crosby Beach, on Tuesday, with one remaining in hospital.
Families who had been at the beach watched as people rushed into to help the men and took part in a desperate rescue. James Pugh told the Liverpool Echo he was having his dinner on the beach with his partner and two stepchildren at around 7pm when he heard shouting from the water.
He said when he noticed splashing he sprinted to the waterfront to see what was happening. After getting closer to the water's edge he realised there was a group, thought to be in their 20s, in difficulty.
