After all living mammals with a Y chromosome — except for one man and his monkey — simultaneously die without any explanation, the world’s women are left to try to rebuild civilisation while attempting to figure out what caused the cataclysmic event that wiped out half of humanity.

As well as having a predominantly female cast, all 10 episodes of the new series will be directed by women, with the production team also featuring a large proportion of women as department heads.
