First ever Dumfries Comic Con proves a hit with all ages

The inaugural Dumfries Comic Con was a huge hit with all ages at the David Keswick Centre on Saturday.Many fans turned up dressed as their graphic or gaming heroes to add to the occasion with appearances of everyone from Batman to the Transformer, Bumblebee; Ghostbusters to Jedis and Siths from Star Wars and lots of others.One youngster, Nial, came dressed as Bumblebee and was thrilled to meet a larger version.Many took part in the free to enter Cosplay competition on the day or joined in one of the workshops.There were special appearances by comic guest writers and artists plus the chance to play arcade machines with more than 3,000 games.Comic writer Mark Abnett was at the event, along with Viz co-founder Simon Donald and Sheikh Islam – better known as The Art of Fish – who has worked on various licensed card sets for TOPPS, including Lucasfilm approved Star Wars artwork.Writer Jim Alexander, who has worked with Marvel as well as award-winning Scottish publisher Rough Cut Comics, was also a guest.More than 50 traders were there offering fans a range of comics, graphic novels, signed and graded books, independent comics, art, Funko Pops, props, action figures, Anime, trading cards, clothing, D&D, jewellery, prints and Lego.Organiser Ian Bonar was delighted how successful it was and vowed: “We’ll be back in 2023, bigger and better.”
