Firefighters tackling huge blaze in Preston town centre

Firefighters are battling a large fire in Preston tonight (Tuesday). A derelict building has caught light in the Church Street area of the Lancashire town centre.

The fire was first reported just before 6:20pm. A number of people shared images online of the blaze. One, taken by local councillor Maxwell Green from the town's bus station, showed bright orange flames lapping up from the building and black smoke billowing into the night sky. Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) currently have four fire engines at the scene and firefighters are using breathing apparatus, jets and an aerial platform as they try to bring it under control, Lancs Live reports.

A spokesperson for LFRS said: "At 18:18 on 12 November 2024, four fire engines from Preston, Bamber Bridge and Blackpool, along with the aerial ladder platform were called to a derelict building fire on Church Street, Preston.
