Firefighters wearing breathing gear tackled a significant blaze at Forest Bank prison in Salford. Crews spent an hour getting the fire under control.
The drama started at noon on Thursday when three engines were called to the prison on Agecroft Road. Managers at the privately-operated jail said no inmates or staff were harmed.
An HMP Forest Bank spokesperson said: “We can confirm there was a cell fire at HMP Forest Bank yesterday (7 March) which was dealt with by prison staff.
GMFRS (Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service) attended.
