The thirteenth and final full moon will rise tonight ahead of a meteor shower. A week after the conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter, skygazers have another astronomical event to look forward to tonight.

At 3.28am the moon will reach its peak in the night sky, the highest point of any full moon this year. The final full moon of 2020 has been given different names by different cultures.

The Algonguin tribe of the north and eastern United States call it the Wolf Moon, due to the packs which would howl at it outside of villages in the dark of the winter.

The Mohawk Native Americans know it as the Cold Moon, due to its chilly temperatures, while it is sometimes referred to as the Yule Moon in European countries.
