Film Review: Dwayne Johnson In New Line/DC’s ‘Black Adam’

EXCLUSIVE: In the wake of Dwayne Johnson notching the highest opening of his solo star career with this weekend’s Black Adam at $67M, his holiday movie, currently titled Red One, is ramping up with additional castings: Deadline has learned that Nick Kroll, Kristofer Hivju, Wesley Kimmel and Mary Elizabeth Ellis are joining.

Warner Bros/New Line/DC’s Black Adam began rolling out at the international box office on Wednesday, and through Thursday has rocked to $13.8M from 57 markets. Today adds the UK and Spain as overseas release continues.

After more than a decade’s journey to the big screen, New Line and DC Films’ Black Adam opens today, and while he hasn’t been a part of since the beginning, director Jaume Collet-Serra is happy to see this long journey come to its conclusion.

This is at least a very good start for Black Adam. Fans always come out on Thursday night; let’s hope it keeps up. While critics aren’t fan at 43% Rotten, the audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is much better at 88%. Previews began yesterday at 3PM.

We have confirmed and tracking service NRG is eyeing a $175M start for Disney/Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. That will make it the second best opening of 2022 after Disney/Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness which debuted to $187.4M. Last year’s Marvel sequel, Spider-Man: No Way Home, owns the biggest domestic opening of the pandemic at $260M, and second best ever in the history of box office.
