Stewart Anderson says winning a fifth world bowls title is a dream come true, and the last 12 months in the sport have been “perfect” for him.The 36-year-old won the pairs title with Darren Burnett on Monday, beating English holders Mark Dawes and Jamie Chestney 9-6, 7-11, 2-0 at Potters Resort in Hopton-on-Sea.That adds to a double singles, pairs and mixed pairs titles already in Anderson’s impressive trophy cabinet.Eddlewood and Blantyre Miners’ Welfare player Anderson said: “It was a really tough half of the draw we were in, and just to get through and play the holders in the final was brilliant.“It has probably been too long since me and Darren won the pairs, so it was good to get over the line.

I’m really happy.“We were over the moon when we realised we were going to win it.“Darren lost the first round of his singles, so even for him to bounce back and lift a world title with me, we’re delighted.“That’s two pairs, two singles and mixed pairs, so that’s five for me.

To win five world titles is a dream come true.“You never, ever dream of winning one, never mind five!”Anderson’s success comes off the back of his recent inclusion in this year’s Scotland squad for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. And he added: “I’m playing with a lot of confidence just now, and it has been some year.“Winning the national triples at the start of the season and being named in the Commonwealth Games squad was a dream come true.“To win the first tournament of the campaign as well is pretty good, so everything has lined up.”Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onTwitter via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebookor find us onInstagramfor the latest sports news, pictures and video.
