Felix Magath claims he was nearly Rangers manager before Steven Gerrard got the job. The legendary German boss has been a shareholder in the Ibrox club since 2014 when he bought a one per cent stake of 810,000 shares while they languished in the lower leagues of Scottish football.
He's kept a keen eye on them ever since and Magath, whose storied career has seen him in charge of Bayern Munich, Wolfsburg and Fulham as well as a host of others, even interviewed for the manager's job in 2018.Magath was out of work after a brief stint in China and says he held meetings with the board about the job before going in separate directions.
He said via the Scottish Sun: “We met in London and we discussed possibilities. It was 2018 and I was interested. But as with any negotiation with a club, things have to be right.
Obviously, there are different aspects in British football and, unfortunately, it didn’t work out.” Magath also opened up on his eyebrow-raising decision to invest significant cash in the Ibrox club to help aid their resurgence back up the leagues.
