Alex Millar is safe to release back into the community – 45 years after his sickening crime shocked the nation. Millar, now 74, is due to have his freedom plea considered at a mental health tribunal chaired by Mungo Bovey QC.
Sources believe Millar’s chances of freedom are better than they have ever been because he is so frail he can no longer be considered a danger.
But yesterday the sister of Millar’s young victims said she was unaware of the hearing. Millar has been held in secure psychiatric wards since bludgeoning John McMonigle, 13, and his sister Irene, 12, to death with a hammer at their home in Govan, Glasgow, in January 1976 after breaking in to steal the family’s TV set.
