Forecasters have warned that miserable May could shape up to become the coldest in 25 years. Brits have been lashed with torrential downpours and biting cold this month with relentless rainfall in recent weeks and temperatures barely above zero.
But there have been hopes from some forecasters of a heatwave just around the corner to mark the start of June and sunnier weather.
Today there is forecast to be yet more rain as well as thunderstorms and chilly temperatures. And reportedly, this month has seen temperatures drop to 2.1 C colder than the seasonal average which is 8.3 C at the same time of year.
