Joe Otterson TV Reporter A spinoff of the popular CBS cop drama “FBI” that will focus partly on CIA agents is currently in works, Variety has confirmed.
The potential new entry in the “FBI” franchise would originate as a planted spinoff, with new character introduced in an upcoming episode of “FBI.” The official logline of the new project, currently titled “FBI: CIA,” states, “A dedicated, strait-laced FBI agent and a street-smart CIA agent are part of a new, clandestine taskforce charged with solving and preventing domestic terrorism in and around New York City.” The show is targeting a potential series pickup for the 2025-2026 season.
Casting is currently underway for three characters who will be introduced in the “FBI” episode who would then serve as series regulars in the new show should it get greenlit.
Dick Wolf is set as a writer and executive producer along with “FBI: Most Wanted” showrunner David Hudgins as well as Nicole Perlman and David Chasteen.
