Michael Anthony James Cusker, 28, was drunk when he threw the pyrotechnic item at officers close to The Lowry Hotel, in Salford, on May 2.

During the afternoon he blocked traffic along Chapel Street, shouted at drivers and clambered onto a passing lorry. Cusker - who was struggling with the death of his mother at the time - was arrested when he tried to climb into the cab of the HGV.
