Relatives and loved ones of a teenage girl who died after a crash on the M73 have paid tribute to "the sweetest, most caring soul".Sophie Laing, 16, was killed after a horrific collision near the motorway's Gartcosh Junction in North Lanarkshire on Saturday, January 28.
The teenager, from Cumbernauld, had been a passenger in the rear of a car that collided with another vehicle at around 1.30pm that day.Following the crash, she and the 62-year-old male driver of the vehicle were both rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
But sadly, Sophie could not be saved and later passed away in hospital from her injuries.A 42-year-old man was later arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and has since been released pending further enquiries.
Following the tragedy, Sophie's grieving cousin has described her as having a "heart of gold" who would "put everyone else's needs before her own".A fundraiser launched in memory of the teenager reads: "Our family is heartbroken.
