An "amazing young man" stepped in covered the cost after four customers fled a pub without paying their large food bill. Landlords Sarah and Andy House were left out of pocket after the scammers targeted the Kings Arms in Elham, Kent, just days after pubs were allowed to reopen their beer gardens.
Like other publicans they had been shut for months because of the coronavirus pandemic, until April 12 where they were able to serve food and drink to punters outside.
The couple confessed it had been "frantic" coming up with a new way of operating and were suddenly liable for full rent payments, reports Kent Live.
The challenge didn't get any easier when a table of four left with without paying a penny of their bill on their first Saturday
