An Ayrshire chef took a massive plunge by leaving a top job to start his own business – and it’s paid off. Richard Wilson worked with Costley and Costley as an executive chef, most recently at the famous Brig o’ Doon in Alloway, but decided to go it alone after spending lockdown with his family.He started a company called Indulge At Home with his fiancé Audrey that delivered restaurant quality ready meals to people’s front doors in a bid to get a better work-life balance – and now it’s taken off so much that they’ve just got the keys to their first restaurant.
Richard, from Irvine, has plenty of experience in his 16 years of being a chef, and he feels right at home due to their new premises being located at the former Costley’s Patisserie & Chocolatier in Prestwick, a building he knows well – and it will be called Indulge Prestwick.
The new venue isn't open yet as work is currently underway to overhaul the premises.He told Ayrshire Live: “My backstory before I started my own business was that I was an executive chef for Bill Costley.“I used to run the Brig O’ Doon House, and as this building we’ve taken over used to be a Costley’s business, I knew the place really well.“It was an easy selection when it came up, we were looking to grow our business, we have been looking to take the step into getting our own restaurant for a while.“We are in the process of refurbing the place, the front cafe part will be turning into more of a restaurant style.“It was a no-brainer, we do a kind of small catering range, private weddings and the ready meal range."Richard cooks and Audrey handles marketing and sales at the fledgling business.And it was during lockdown that everything clicked into place for the couple and once society
