Ex-Rangers star Kyle Hutton charged after woman dies following horror Rutherglen crash

Former Rangers player Kyle Hutton has been arrested and charged after a woman died following a car crash in Rutherglen. The 33-year-old footballer is alleged to have been driving an orange Mitsubishi L200 pick-up vehicle when the horror accident took place off Farmeloan Road, close to the player’s home, on Saturday night.Pedestrian Victoria Cairns, 40, from Glasgow, was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital by ambulance.

She succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday, October 7.Hutton has now been charged with road traffic offences. Police said enquiries remain ongoing as they issued a fresh appeal for witnesses who may be able to provide details of how the crash occurred.

A report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.Sergeant Andrew Coutts said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman at this difficult time.

They have asked that their privacy is respected.“Our enquiries are ongoing and I would again ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or who may have dash-cam footage, and has not yet spoken to or provided this information to officers, to contact us as soon as possible.”Hutton was expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court earlier this week but the Crown Office confirmed that he did not appear, although a case against him remains active.A Crown Office spokesperson said: “The Procurator Fiscal received a report concerning a male aged 33 years in connection with an alleged incident on November 2, 2024.
