A former Rangers medic has been banned from the road after being caught drink driving at a McDonald’s drive-thru.Dr Olivier Materne, 51, went AWOL after initially appearing in Glasgow Sheriff Court over the allegations nearly a year ago.He was understood to be in France before police issued an arrest warrant, which led to his return to the dock last week.The court heard the Belgian was more than three times over the limit while behind the wheel of a BMW 330 Sport on December 16, 2022.

Police were alerted that he “may be under the influence” while ordering at the fast food outlet in Partick, Glasgow, at about 1am.Officers found him sitting in the driver’s seat with the engine running.Fiscal Louise James told Glasgow Sheriff Court: “Materne agreed to provide a specimen of breath.

The officer asked if he had consumed any alcohol and when his last drink was. He replied: ‘I have had a few’.”A later test revealed Materne had 78mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

The legal limit is 22mg.Materne was charged, but claimed: “I think this is unfair.”He was ordered to appear in the dock at a later date.
