Ex-GMP detective barred from policing after drugs test revealed cocaine use

A Greater Manchester Police detective quit the force after a routine drugs test revealed traces of cocaine in her urine. Greater Manchester's chief of police has now ruled former detective constable Georgia Curley would have been sacked had she not already resigned.

Chief Constable Stephen Watson, who chaired a misconduct hearing at GMP HQ, said he was 'presented with incontrovertible evidence of unlawful drug use' and her 'offending behaviour was clearly unlawful'.

In a now published ruling, he said it 'must necessarily have involved a casual and corrupting association with a person or persons actively engaged in criminality'. "Her actions were deliberate and carried out in the full knowledge that her conduct was patently unlawful.

A police officer is expected to target active criminals, not to consort with them. Had she not resigned, I would have had no hesitation in dismissing her from the service with immediate effect." The ruling revealed Ms Curley was subjected to a drugs test on February 21 and gave a sample of urine.
