An inquest will investigate the tragic case of 21 year old Bethan Amy James, who devastatingly died from what is believed to be sepsis just 48 hours after being admitted to hospital.

Bethan's grief-stricken father, former England cricketer and respected sports journalist Steve James, was heartbreakingly unable to return home in time to see his daughter due to travel delays caused by bad weather conditions while he was away covering a Six Nations' match in Ireland.

At the pre-inquest review hearing held in Pontypridd, South Wales on Wednesday, 18 September it was revealed that the expected medical cause of death for Bethan was likely sepsis. The upcoming inquest, led by area coroner Patricia Morgan, aims to meticulously examine the chain of events leading up to Bethan's death.

It will scrutinise her medical history, the level of care she received from the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, as well as the details surrounding her transfer from her home to the hospital on February 8, 2020.
