A former police officer has been jailed for 45 months after he was found guilty of “appalling” physical and verbal abuse against three women.A jury convicted Christopher Ferguson on a string of charges, including assault, stalking and threatening behaviour, that spanned more than 14 years.
He targeted the females at addresses in Motherwell, Wishaw, Carfin, East Kilbride and Glasgow between January 2007 and July 2021.

Passing sentence, Sheriff Linda Nicolson said Ferguson was someone “trusted to uphold the law and protect others”.Yet he had committed serious offences against these women and his behaviour had “escalated” over the years.The sheriff stated: “Victim impact statements from the second and third complainers disclose the profound and ongoing harm on many aspects of their lives.“The first complainer chose not to submit such a statement, but it appeared from her evidence that your conduct caused her significant distress over a period of years.“I have considered what has been said on your behalf in mitigation, but your culpability and the harm caused are such that there is no alternative to a custodial sentence.”The court heard that Ferguson punched and grabbed
