A reward for information to catch the thugs responsible for a firebomb attack on former Celtic FC chief executive Peter Lawwell could be reinstated.
It’s exactly a year since the former football supremo had his house set on fire but no arrests have been made. The Sunday Mail understands that Police Scotland are considering bringing back a cash reward due after a £20,000 fund was withdrawn in February this year.
The attack at Lawwell’s home in Thorntonhall, Glasgow on May 19 last year, was one of a string of deliberate fires believed to have been orchestrated by gangland figures.A source said: “The reward was only up for a set period of time but officers have really drawn a blank with getting the right information to catch who’s responsible so they are looking at putting the money back on the table to entice someone forward.”The attack on the 63-year-old’s luxury home saw three cars set on fire with the flames spreading to part of the property.Lawwell and his family - including his daughter and baby granddaughter - all had a lucky escape after being woken by one of the cars exploding.Police later released CCTV images of a key suspect and his vehicle.Scottish Conservative shadow community safety minister Russell Findlay said: “It’s encouraging to hear police saying they’re continuing to make inquiries and hopefully if this reward is reinstated, someone might come forward with vital information.“Anyone who targets a family home with fire is taking a reckless gamble with people’s lives.
