Serial baby killer Lucy Letby will spend the rest of her life behind bars after receiving the UK's most severe punishment for her crimes.
Whole-life orders are reserved for those who commit the most heinous crimes and Letby, the most prolific child serial killer in modern British history, joins dozens of notorious criminals currently seeing out the rest of their lives in prison.
Letby was convicted by a jury of murdering seven babies and trying to kill six more while working in the Countess of Chester Hospital’s neonatal unit between 2015 and 2016.
She was told by a judge that there was a “malevolence bordering on sadism" in her actions for which she showed "no remorse”.
