Eurovision Song Contest hopeful Olly Alexander has revealed how he was left sobbing after a heartbreaking TV moment. The former Years And Years singer, who's representing the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday, 11 May, was filming Channel 4's award-winning drama series It's A Sin when filming had to be halted.
The 33 year old star won over a new fanbase with his portrayal of naive yet vibrant gay teen Ritchie Tozer, and spoke to The New York Times about the moment that reduced him to tears.
He confessed: "I was a complete mess after the first take, I was sobbing." Olly recalled how director Peter Hoar had to pause filming of the emotionally charged scene from episode 4, which unfolds after Ritchie and his friends are arrested for protesting against the UK government's lack of action during the HIV/AIDS pandemic.This poignant scene sees Ritchie disclose his HIV positive status to his friends, affirming "I'm gonna live".
In the same interview, Olly expressed his delight that the show led to a record number of HIV tests, as reported by sexual health charity Terrence Higgins Trust.
