An etiquette expert has shared an easy way to warn someone they have sauce on their face without embarrassing them. William Hanson is back with more dining advice, this time taking to TikTok to educate his 2.1 million followers on the art of discreetly informing someone they have food around their mouth.
Having appeared on ITV's This Morning last week to discuss festive manners with presenters Dermot O'Leary and Josie Gibson, he is well-placed to answer all your burning etiquette questions.
He has now addressed a common dining dilemma, namely, "how to tell a fellow diner they have a saucy lip". In the video in which he can be seen sipping tea outside a restaurant, William advised: "First of all, don't tell them in front of everyone seated at the table.
Don't embarrass them." Instead, he suggests a more subtle approach using non-verbal cues: "It's all about eye contact," he says. "Fix eye contact with them as you touch the corner of your lip with a napkin, and they'll soon get the message."
